J'ai passé huit ans fantastiques au Munster et je remercie tout le monde impliqué avec cette province. Pas seulement les entraîneurs, aussi l’ensemble du personnel et tout le monde qui s’investie dans ce club. Bien évidemment je n’oublie pas les fans qui ont toujours une place spéciale dans mon cœur. J'ai été très fier d’être élu joueur de l’année 2011 avec le Munster. Comme j'ai dit quand j'ai quitté ce club, jouer une fois avec le Munster aurait été un honneur, le faire pendant presque 10 ans était quelque chose de vraiment spécial.
J'ai aussi vraiment aimé jouer mes trois saisons avec Pau, que j’ai rejoint quand le club était en PROD2. Nous avons gagné le titre lors de ma première saison et retrouvé le Top 14 la saison dernière avec un maintien à la clé pour finir cette deuxième saison en se battant pour le Top 6. Merci à tout le monde impliqué avec ce club de la Section Paloise.
Simon, je n'aurais jamais quitté le Munster sans toi, tu m’as offert une opportunité de le faire et pour ça je t’en serai toujours reconnaissant.
À ma Maman et mon Papa, je veux juste dire merci car ils ont été toujours là pour moi. Le commencement fut quand vous marchiez avec moi les matins humides de septembre pour m’amener jouer avec les « Old Christians » quand j’étais petit jusqu’au moment, beaucoup plus tard, dans ma carrière où maman essayait d'apprendre le français pour parler avec les habitants de Montpellier lors de notre demi-finale de H-cup avec le Munster contre Clermont….Je ne pourrais pas l'avoir fait sans vous. À toute ma famille, mes frères, ma sœur, ma tante, mes oncles et sans oublier Nana, merci pour votre soutient indéfectible.
Une mention spéciale pour ma femme Katri, qui m'a soutenu au cours de ma carrière pendant les bons et les mauvais moments tant en Irlande que lors du déménagement de notre jeune famille en France il y a trois ans."
"After more than 10 years and over 200 matches with Munster Rugby & Section Paloise (Pau) I have decided to retire from professional rugby. I would like to thank everyone that has been involved in my career to date from the coaches at school, Dolphin, Munster to everyone at Pau.
I had a fantastic eight years at Munster and I thank everyone involved with the province – not just the coaches but the backroom staff and everyone involved in the club and of course the fans who still have a special place in my heart. I took great pride in winning the Munster Player of the Year in 2011. As I said when I left, to play once would have been an honour, to do it for nearly 10 years was special.
I also have thoroughly enjoyed my three seasons in Pau, joining them when they were in PROD2, winning promotion in my first season and leaving them as an established Top 14 side fighting for a Top 4 finish this season. Thank you to everyone involved with Section Paloise.
Simon I would never have stepped outside the box of Munster had you not offered me the opportunity and for that I will be forever grateful.
To my Mam and Dad I just want to say thanks for always being there for me. Starting from walking me to Old Christians on wet September mornings to Mam trying to learn French so she could chat up French men in Montpellier. I couldn't have done it without you. To all my family, brothers, sister, aunt, uncles and not forgetting Nana, thanks for your unwavering support.
A special mention must go to my wife Katri also who has supported me throughout my career through the good times and the bad times both in Ireland and also in moving our young family over to France three years ago."
